Piso, casa, apartamento
In Spain a flat is usually a piso. Casa is a house – but also “home”: estoy en casa.
- Busco un piso en el centro.I’m looking for a flat in the centre.
- Hoy me quedo en casa.I’m staying at home today.
Whose turn is it?
Tocar works like gustar: me toca a mí, te toca a ti, le toca a él.
- Hoy te toca a ti.Today it’s your turn.
- ¿A quién le toca fregar?Whose turn is it to do the dishes?
Asking politely
¿Podrías…? (could you) and ¿Te importa si…? (do you mind if) sound friendly and polite.
- ¿Podrías bajar la música?Could you turn the music down?
- ¿Te importa si abro la ventana?Do you mind if I open the window?
